Overview
Project Kyotanabe is a 137 MW / 548 MWh utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under development in Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. Serving the Kansai grid, Japan’s second-largest electricity market and home to its most nuclear-heavy generation mix, Kyotanabe is designed to capture the structural price spread between periods of midday generation surplus and evening peak demand, driven in part by Kansai’s rapidly growing data centre load.
Development
Brawn Energy acquired Project Kyotanabe during its early development phase and has since advanced key technical and regulatory milestones. Technical review with the utility is currently in progress. Work continues to finalise procurement, grid coordination, and construction planning to maintain project timelines.
Community Engagement
Community engagement activities will be conducted at both city and prefecture level to introduce the project to local stakeholders and address any initial concerns. Brawn Energy remains committed to maintaining open communication with the community throughout the development process.
