Overview
Project Maibara is a 50 MW utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under development in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture. Serving the Kansai grid, Maibara is designed to capture the structural price spread between periods of midday generation surplus and evening peak demand, while supporting grid stability across western Japan.
Development
Brawn Energy acquired Project Maibara during its early development phase and has since advanced it to Ready-to-Build (RTB) status. Key achievements to date include:
- Obtained all required development and grid connection permits for the current stage.
- Ensured alignment with the Maibara City Development Office’s environmental and greenery guidelines.
Work continues to finalize procurement, grid coordination, and construction planning to maintain the targeted COD of Q4 2029.
Community Engagement
Several community engagement sessions, on both prefecture and city level, have been conducted to introduce the project to local stakeholders and address any initial concerns. Brawn Energy remains committed to maintaining open communication with the community throughout the development process.
Construction Management
Brawn Energy is leading Project Maibara through every stage of development: site acquisition, permitting, and stakeholder coordination. We will continue to serve as construction and delivery manager through to commercial operation.
